Well alright, here we have the Cleveland Guardians locking horns with the San Diego Padres at the gorgeous Petco Park - where it's always more fun under the sun. If the Guardians hope to pull a victory out of their hat, they'll need a significant performance from their starting pitcher, Logan Allen. Allen had a bit of a rollercoaster season last year with a 5.962 ERA, but hey, life's one big redemption story right?
San Diego, on the other hand, is handing the ball to Michael King. Now his ERA had some nosedive this season with 12.27, but let's not forget his stellar performance last season with an ERA of 2.905. It's never too late for a comeback, and I'm secretly hoping he heard that.
In terms of the cream of the crop, the Guardians have got Kyle Manzardo and Steven Kwan leading the charge, but here's hoping they ate their Wheaties this morning. Meanwhile, the Padres have an attack spearheaded by Gavin Sheets and the ever flamboyant Fernando Tatis Jr., who by the way, is more dangerous than a three-legged cat in a dog pound.
The Padres have proven to handle the Guardians better in past encounters, with a 3-2 record in their last five meetings. Add to that, the momentum is definitely with the Padres who are enjoying a flawless 4-0 record this season. A little more sunshine, it seems, for the San Diego Padres.
Important to remember here, any baseball game can flip faster than a politician's promise and while the Guardians had a bit of a hiccup recently, they could surprise us yet. However, considering all, I'd say the Padres might just school the Guardians in their own backyard this time.
