San Francisco Giants by 2Let’s hotfoot over to the heart of Texas and take a gander at an exciting clash between the San Francisco Giants and the Houston Astros. Suns out, gloves out, we're toasting this fine day in Minute Maid Park, a fair field that doesn't favor our pitchers nor our hitters. Fair is fair, right?
On the mound, we've got two fascinating pitchers. Jordan Hicks of the Giants, who wasn’t exactly the talk of the town last season, holding a not-so-impressive 4.202 ERA with 8.1 K/9. Meanwhile, the Astros' Ronel Blanco was just dandy last season and even threw some impeccable pitches during playoffs, remember that? Looks like he's been flexing those stats for everyone to see.
On to our heavy hitters. For the Giants, Heliot Ramos has been hitting the ball with the grace of a ballet performer, 4 RBIs and 2 home runs to his name, while Mike Yastrzemski is maintaining a rather glorious batting average. Flores though, seems to be in a bit of slump. Astros have Jose Altuve, stellar at the plate with a seriously good batting average, while Brendan Rodgers has been... well, let's say he should probably focus on playing baseball rather than writing numbers.
Now, going down memory lane, these two teams haven't been too far apart in their past matchups. A pinch of this, a dash of that and voila - a delicious stew of competition. But mind you, with the Giants having tasted victory the last time they met in Houston, it all adds a sprinkle of intrigue, doesn't it?
As for the successes this regular season, both teams are neck-and-neck with a 2-1 ratio. However, do remember the Giants recently trumped the Reds, while Astros held fort against the Yankees - and we know, every victory counts, right?
