Ah, another great match-up in the making, Red Sox versus Orioles, straight from the historic Oriole Park at Camden Yards. I don't know about you, but this matchup feels as exciting as watching paint dry... on your favorite wall.
Let's begin with our wannabe modern-day Cream of Wheat men, and starting pitchers. That's right, Sean Newcomb for the Red Sox, and Cade Povich for the Orioles. Who could forget Newcomb's utterly forgettable last season with that bloated 6.774 ERA and a WHIP resembling a phone number. Cade Povich, on the other hand, had somewhat of a lukewarm performance last season with a 5.419 ERA, but hey, he still has less patches on his arm than Newcomb.
On to the top players for each team. The Red Sox have Wilyer Abreu who is currently sporting a temperamental .700 batting average with 6 RBIs and 2 home runs this season. Let's not forget Kristian Campbell, who looks like he just stepped off a Monopoly board and has a .455 average with 1 home run. However, the Orioles could also play well with a guy named Jordan Westburg batting .462, 3 RBIs, and 3 home runs this season. Add to the mix players like Cedric Mullins and his .313 batting average, 6 RBIs, and 2 home runs, well, this might just get interesting, provided you don't fall asleep first.
So, let's not forget the history between these two, which frankly reads like a sappy rom-com. Recently, it has been seesaw affair with no clear pattern of domination, so your guess is as good as mine, folks.
Also, when we consider the regular season records, the Orioles hold a tiny advantage over the Red Sox, but even my grandmother's Chihuahua would put up more of a fight.
If we take a peek at recent results, both teams seem to be wallowing in mediocrity. The Red Sox have been picking up a loss as if it were a two-for-one special, with 3 losses in their last 4 games. Meanwhile, the Orioles' recent form is as inconsistent as my wifi signal, ranging from high-scoring victories to low-scoring defeats.
If you've made it this far in my discussion without falling into a boredom-induced coma, congratulations! My insipid commentary hasn't proved fatal... yet. Now to the raison d'être: my prediction!
