You better have your popcorn ready folks as we gird ourselves for one of those games that give you indigestion quicker than downing a hot dog in the 7th inning.
The Toronto Blue Jays are flapping their wings at home in the Rogers Centre, hosting the Washington Nationals. We're north of the border with a pitcher-friendly park. It's like those Blue Jays designed their nest just perfect for the pitchers. Great news for our feathered friends with Bowden Francis holding the rods. Last season, Mr. Francis managed a 3.360 ERA with 27 appearances. That's not too shabby given we are talking about a season long stat.
But wait, Washington isn't just coming to play tee-ball. Their man on the mound, Mike Soroka, had a bit of a rough patch last season harboring a 4.948 ERA but don't judge a book by its cover or a pitcher by one tough season.
On the Blue Jays' side, we got some solid hitters. Bo Bichette boasts a .467 batting average while George Springer is clocking in at .364. They've got the steam, but will they blow their whistle?
The Nationals counter with a brigade of their own. Including the hot-handed Jose Tena, who, mind you, holds a perfect batting average. Surprise-surprise, a middle infielder leading the Nationals' charge. And let's not forget Amed Rosario aiming to hit off the charts and Keibert Ruiz and Nathaniel Lowe showing they can bring some runs to the dinner table.
Past history is a checking account of sorts with the Nationals cutting a sizeable cheque last time round. FDA warning - past results do not guarantee future outcomes, but man, it sure does plant a seed of confidence. The Nationals, they’ve had a bumpy ride this season with a 1-2 record while the Blue Jays are flying a bit higher with a 2-2.
Now, turn on that radio, tune into the game and strap in for what's sure to be a barn-burner. Going with my gut and the numbers tucked in there, have to put my eggs in the Blue Jays' basket.
Albert’s Prediction: Toronto Blue Jays by 2
