San Diego Padres by 3Alright, watch out everyone, we've got a baseball clash fit for an epic movie plot tonight: The Atlanta Braves are headed to the west coast to run bases with the San Diego Padres.
My, oh, my, do we have some interesting match-ups here. Our Braves have AJ Smith-Shawver going to the mound. Now ignore Smith-Shawver's last season's playoff stats. I mean, who could possibly forget that 24.545 ERA? Hey, everyone has a bad day... or series... but let's remember his great regular season stats. This guy was striking out opponents left, right and center.
On the opposing side, Nick Pivetta will be heading up the Padres defense. Now, he's no stranger to strikeouts either, as shown by his 10.7 K/9 last season.
Looking at the batting lineups, for the Braves, Marcell Ozuna and Jurickson Profar are names you just can't ignore. I mean, batting averages of 0.302 and 0.279 respectively? That's some serious bat swing right there.
Then, there's the Padres. Loaded with guys who can hit the ball where it hurts, especially Jackson Merrill and Fernando Tatis Jr. Respectively sporting batting averages of 0.285 and 0.274, this duo might just be the ingredient the Padres need to take the win.
But, we can't overlook the history between these teams. Recent encounters suggest that the Padres do have a bit of an advantage, at least at Petco Park anyway.
Also, did you know the Padres have been performing a little better last season? They clocked in at 93 wins, couple more than the Braves' 89. I mean, it's close, but in baseball, every win counts, doesn't it?
So, given all these juicy details, I'm leaning towards a Padres victory tonight. But this is baseball, folks, nothing's ever certain until that last out. Fingers crossed for an exciting game.
