Talk about a call for amnesia, folks…oops. Let’s file this right under forget-me-nows for Laslo Djere, because going into this matchup with Sebastian Baez, the history hasn’t exactly painted a masterpiece for dear Laslo. Don’t get me wrong, Djere did manage a neat vanquishing of Buse and Cerundolo recently but it's going to be a "slap the alarm clock and wake me up when it's over" type of situation in this final.
The Baez-Djere record reads more like a Baez greatest hits album as our man from Argentina has swatted Djere away like an annoying fly in their past two meetings. I mean, if you're a fan of underdogs, by all means, keep that hope alive, I've heard stranger tales in the sports bar over a pint of frothy one.
Just to keep the scales balanced, Baez is riding that wave of victory, not losing a set against Džumhur and Muller. Might even want to serve him up a trophy for perseverance while we're at it. His rank as the 3rd seed tells the same story - Baez is the honey badger here, refusing to back down.
Ladies and gentlemen, while I love a good hair-raising twist, faith can only take one so far. Pour one out for our man Laslo, it does look like a tough rodeo ahead.
Albert’s Prediction: Baez in straight sets.
