Mpetshi Perricard in 3 setsOh, what a treat we have here, folks. A classic David vs Goliath battle, if I've ever seen one, in this upcoming round of the BNP Paribas Open. Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard pitching up as the 29th seed, while Fabian Marozsan, bless his soul, unseeded. But let's not judge the book by its printed numbers, shall we?
Mpetshi Perricard, on one hand, the man's been a bit of a see-saw lately, a juxtaposition of wins and losses. Medvedev D. sent him home in two sets just last week, but boy, did he bounce back against Zhang Z. and Pucinelli de Almeida M. He bagled both of them, poor souls. But then again, Monfils G. and Opelka R. had our man tasting defeat not too long ago.
And then there's Marozsan, ah, like a page out of an intriguing mystery novel. He showed Martínez P. what he's got, beating him in two sets recently. But let's be frank here, he stumbled hard against Bautista Agut R. and Lehečka J., losing in straight sets. And how can we forget his win against Dougaz A., before bowing down to Rublev A. in two sets.
All said and done, where does the betting man's money go, you ask? It smells like a Mpetshi Perricard day to me, folks. He's got the chops and more consistent play. The recent bumps? Psh, merely a hiccup. However, sneaky old Marozsan might just pull off a set, considering his unpredictable performances of late, just to keep things spicy.
