Djokovic in straight setsLadies and gents, time to polish those monocles and adjust those armchairs as we delve deep into this match. We've got world number one, Novak Djokovic, trying to earn his bread against Botic van de Zandschulp, who, bless his tennis socks, he tries so hard.
Now, little bird tells me that Djokovic's been having a bit of a mixed bag lately, losing a couple of matches. Bit of an eyebrow-raiser, I know. However, don't pour your champagnes of sympathy too quickly. This is Djokovic we're talking about after all; slides more than an eel in butter. Preposterously good.
Van de Zandschulp, on the other hand, has been flailing like a distressed salmon in a bear's mouth recently. Won a bit, lost a bit, which, considering he's unseeded, is frankly quite reasonable. Kid's ambitious, got a bit of that fire in his belly. Has had more ups and downs than a kangaroo on a trampoline, but trying to overcome Djokovic is like trying to scale Everest on roller skates.
Extended metaphors aside, extrapolating from their recent performance, it feels inevitable like taxes and DJ Khaled screaming his own name on songs. Overall, expect Djokovic to show us why he's number 6 seed and has a paycheck that reads like a phone number.
