Yokohama DeNA BayStars by 2If we've learned anything from watching baseball, it's that surprises are practically a given in the game. Yet, looking at our contenders for this showdown, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars and the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles, the scales seem a little tipped, and not in the favor of the underdogs, the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles.
Trudging through their past record, you can’t help but halt at the Yokohama Baystars' dominance. The last four matchups have almost mimicked a seesaw - a win here, a loss there, but overall, the BayStars hold a 3-1 record against the Golden Eagles. Although some may argue that it's been a close one sometimes, to those folks, my good old grandmother used to say, 'close only matters in horseshoes and hand grenades'.
Granted, the BayStars have been cruising on a winning streak in their recent matches with a commendable 5 victories in a row. Their record boasts of an impressive outing against big fish like Tokyo Yakult Swallows and Hanshin Tigers. They're like a rocket in space right now - no friction to slow them down.
This isn't to disregard the Golden Eagles. They've got talent, certainly, but their recent performance hasn't set any pitch on fire. A patchy display of wins and losses paints a picture reminiscent of a checkerboard, and sadly, this isn’t a game of checkers. Their last outing with the BayStars didn’t end in their favor either.
All things considered, arriving at a winner isn’t gazing into a magic 8 ball, folks. It's simple math, really.
