Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks by 2
There's always a little magic in the air when the Saitama Seibu Lions square off against the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, a touch of the sublime and the ridic... well, at least it keeps us entertained. Now, if we gaze into the murky waters of recent history - you remember history, right? It's that thing we ignore when we repeat our mistakes - we see a bit of a seesaw scenario, a hot-and-cold relationship, a dance of domination and devastation.
On the one hand, we have the Lions, who may I remind you, have been roaring along quite nicely so far this season. They've won more often than they've lost, which is a good start on any baseball field, unless that field also happens to be a minefield. Their recent shutout victories against the helpless Chiba Lotte Marines had me questioning whether mercy is still a thing in baseball.
On the other hand, you have the SoftBank Hawks who, despite their less-than-stellar season record, seem to have the Lions' number. They've handed the Lions some startling losses recently, their beaks as sharp as their gameplay. If Saitama's pride hadn't been wounded enough, the Hawks soared over them just a couple of days ago in an authoritative 6-1 stunner.
Of course, the Lions had exacted their own measure of revenge just a week ago, but since then they've been as threatening as a shoelace in a boxing ring. Looking at their head-to-head record, it's clear the Hawks have done more than just ruffle the Lions’ fur. The Hawks seem to have built a nest up in their scoreboard.
As always, the game could go either way because, let’s face it, the universe delights in unpredictability. But if you were asking me to bet my precious collection of vintage bobbleheads (don't judge me - it's a noble pursuit,) here's how I see it going:
