Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters by 3Ladies and gents, grab your snacks and buckle up because we have an interesting matchup this evening between the Orix Buffaloes and Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. You know these guys have a history that's denser than a holiday fruitcake, but let's take an analytical approach here.
Now, the Buffaloes have been performing like a set of discount batteries lately, unplugged during their most recent face-off against the Fighters, and taking a couple of brutal beatings from the Hawks. All the while, the Fighters have been stacking wins like an overambitious Jenga player. They've really put their eggs in the winning basket, sporting a smooth streak with victories over the Golden Eagles and our beleaguered Buffaloes.
With the season records only slightly tipped in favor of the Fighters, this should be a tighter contest than a pair of last season's jeans after Thanksgiving. Yet, the Buffaloes sometimes seem like they're playing the game as a formative assessment while the Fighters are more into summative appraisal, if you catch my drift.
It's hard not to feel a draft from the cold front the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters have been bringing to their games. Conversely, the Orix Buffaloes have been a bit more lukewarm, and here's hoping they don't bring that 'meh' command performance to this game too.
It's a game of decimals and averages, sure, but hey, baseball is also all about having a bit of a spark and not playing like you've just discovered gravity.
