The Orix Buffaloes have really been swinging their bats like they're trying to knock the stuffing out of a vending machine that ate their lunch money. They've galloped away with 11 of their 14 games this season, putting on a masterclass in "do not try this at home" for the rest of the league. The Lions, while not exactly sheepish, haven't found quite the same level of success. With only 5 wins from their 13 games, they seem more interested in collecting participation medals than championship rings.
The Buffaloes seem to have their horns in the Lions, having performed impressive buffalo-style judo flips in their recent matchups. The Buffaloes have triumphed over the Lions in their last meeting, and have generally shown themselves to be the dominant species in this safari of a contest.
While the Lions did manage to drag the Buffaloes down in the pride lands a couple of times in their past meetings, let's not forget that even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut. The Buffaloes' track record suggests that they're much more likely to leave the Lions licking their wounds than vice versa.
As for recent trend lines, the Buffaloes continue to surge like a well-timed rally car whereas the Lions' journey seems to possess the same level of thrill as a mall carousel, bringing a lukewarm win-loss-win pattern into this heated conflict.
So if you asked me to place my two cents on the line, well, I'd tell you this: always bet on the house. Except when it comes to baseball, where the house is replaced by a pack of stampeding Buffaloes. Thus, toss the coin and make note that the mighty Orix Buffaloes appear ready to stampede into another victory over the somewhat less mighty Saitama Seibu Lions, and by no small margin.
