I hate to be the bearer of bad news for any San Jose Sharks fans out there, but I'm not seeing a lot of reason to bet on a upswing tonight.
The Sharks have got Alexandar Georgiev and Georgi Romanov in goal who have been...trying their best this season. Georgiev has been reasonably effective with an 88.8% season save average; Romanov has got an 87.3% save average, making the nights longer for Sharks' fan.
On the other side of the rink, the Minnesota Wild have been enjoying the fruits of Filip Gustavsson's net minding with a 91.3% season save average which is... well, better, and Marc-Andre Fleury's effort coming out to 90.3%. So, it's safe to speculate that tonight's game might be less of a 'shark attack' and more of a 'shark being scrutinized by the National Geographic team'.
Looking at the top players for the Sharks, we have got Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and William Eklund leading the frontend with last month's statistics falling somewhere between 'middling' and 'oh dear...'. On the Wild side, the situation is a bit more balanced with Matt Boldy, Marcus Johansson and Jared Spurgeon giving more than decent efforts with just slightly negative plus-minus stats; in my world, this is just perfect baloney.
Past matchups between these two teams decidedly favor the Minnesota Wild and the recent results have been consistent with this trend. As for the seasonal standings, well... one look at the list can tell you who has had the green beer flowing.
In summary, I dare say the Sharks might splutter about tonight while being hunted down by the Wild. I’d wager on Minnesota pulling out another win, and the Sharks’ tears creating a salty aftermath on ice.
Albert's Prediction: Minnesota Wild by 3
