The Tampa Bay Lightning are bringing some serious firepower to the ice folks with the dynamic duo of Andrei Vasilevskiy and Jonas Johansson guarding their net. Vasilevskiy, in particular, has been on his A-game, racking up a sparkling 94.2 save percentage this season. Ottawa Senators’ goalkeepers, Linus Ullmark and Anton Forsberg, are holding their own but they're gonna have a tough time matching that.
Lightening's offensive game also looks quite polished with the likes of Nikita Kucherov and Jake Guentzel leading the charge. Kucherov this season has shown some serious stick work netting 30 goals and offering a whopping 77 assists. Guentzel isn't resting on his laurels either, with a record of 37 goals this season. Brayden Point and Victor Hedman have also been pulling their weight.
Now that's not to say the Senators will be serving themselves up on a silver platter. Let's give credit where it's due, Jake Sanderson and Drake Batherson have been handling the pucks rather nicely. But with a -14 plus-minus for Batherson this season, it leaves us wondering if they have what it takes: the stats certainly seem to favor Lightning's skaters.
When we look at the past games between these two, Lightning has bested the Senators three times out of the last five meetups, which aligns with their superior season record.
The recent performances for both teams also lean the scale in favor of Tampa Bay. While both teams had upsets, Lightning seemed to bounce back faster, and more importantly, stronger.
After tallying all the numbers... What? You thought I was doing this by intuition or something? Anyway, here we are:
