Oh, what a treat we have in store! Boston Bruins attempt to invade the home ice of the Montréal Canadiens. The Bruins' gatekeeper, Jeremy Swayman and Joonas Korpisalo are gonna need a bit more than luck against the onslaught of the Canadiens. Swayman's been the brick wall lately, snagging 233 saves last month at a clip of 87.6%, slightly lagging this season's performance by a sneaky 1.7%. Korpisalo, on the other hand, seems to have taken a mini vacation last month, making only 110 saves at 88%.
Then, we roll our eyes across the ice to Montréal's guardians. Seems like Sam Montembeault and Jakub Dobes took a 'Save More' vow this season. Montembeault, the busier of the two, notched up 285 denials last month, clearly showing his goalie-superiority at an enjoyable 89.9%. Dobes, no couch potato, pulled off 81 saves last month.
Boston's player roster doesn't exactly scream 'excitement' lately. Got a soft spot for the underdogs you say? Perhaps case in point is David Pastrnak. He's been lighting the lamp 5 times recently but with a less than enthusiastic -10 plus minus. I mean, it's not rocket science that they're gonna need to step up on this. Morgan Geekie, another high-expectation Bruin, managed 8 goals, 4 assists last month, with an underwhelming -10 plus minus.
Against this, is Montréal's insatiable hunger for victory exemplified by Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield. Suzuki's been a one-man-show with 7 goals, 11 assists and importantly, a positive plus-minus of 5 recently. Hutson could do with some goal improving though, 1 goal for 15 assists adds up to a math I don't like.
Past encounters between these two old rivals are the classic "60-40" leaning more towards the Bruins. Let's not delude ourselves though, regular season records tilt towards the Canadiens. Recent form, on the other hand seems to favor the Canadiens as well, with the Bruins' possibly suffering from adventure hangovers while on the road lately.
After careful consideration, an amalgamation of stats, grudges and my particular brand of intuition have led me to make what I believe is an informed prediction.
