Basketball buffs, the Los Angeles Clippers walk into this game with a fine performance from James Harden whose 25.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds per game, and 8.8 assists per game last month cannot go unnoticed. Kawhi Leonard is also bringing his A-game: 24.6 points per game, 7.1 rebounds per game, and 3.4 assists per game last month-- big numbers to reckon with.
But ah, it's not the only side of the court we're discussing. Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland's main man-- rounding out at 23.9 points per game, 5.0 rebounds per game, and 5.5 assists per game in the past month is no slouch. Then there's Evan Mobley, with 17.9 points per game, and 9.5 rebounds per game-- the Cavaliers aren't here to play games, or maybe they are, because isn't this is a game? And let's not forget Darius Garland - 18.3 points per game and 6.7 assists per game. Quite the balancing act on both sides.
King James' old court has seen the Clippers head home with less tally marks on the scoreboard more often than not, however if we turn the time machine back a bit, the Clippers managed to scrape by with a 3-point win the last time these two met. That was after throwing themselves a pool party in the Cavaliers' teardrops the time before that.
It's classic East meets West: Cleveland, perched pretty at #1 in the East, up against LA at #6 in the West, a team that doesn't seem to enjoy winning as much this season. And while the Cavaliers appear to be shouldering the weight of more wins this season, LA's recent results show they're on an energetic streak of wins.
The Clippers are like that pushy aunt who insists she's the life of the party – she may or may not be, but there sure as heck is no party without her.
So, who's going to scurry away as the victor in this cute little skirmish of giants? Let us take the road less travelled; only the mystic powers of game-day will tell us the answer. Drum roll, please!
