We have a rather intriguing matchup of the bird against the guardian with the Toronto Blue Jays flying into Progressive Field, Cleveland. What's interesting about Progressive Field is that it leans toward pitchers, so grab your pop and sit tight for possibly a low-scoring affair.
Stepping on the mound for Toronto today is Eric Lauer, owning a 2.40 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. Impressive stuff, right? Nine-point-six per nine on the strikeout rate ain't too shabby either, folks. On the other side of the diamond, we have Logan Allen for the Guardians, with a 4.41 ERA, a 1.55 WHIP and a 7.1 K/9. I'm no mathematician, but I can tell you that Lauer's numbers put a smile on his teammates' faces a bit more than Allen's do.
Now, let's meet some bats. For the Blue Jays, Ernie Clement's batting .368, which is hotter than a firecracker in July. Do you remember the name, Alejandro Kirk? Of course, you do! Batting .345 and knocking in 16 RBI's, Kirk's a name pitcher's dread to see on the lineup. Then there's Bo Bichette, batting a cooler .270 but has knock in 23 runs. The name 'Bichette' somehow always ends up in discussions about top players.
Over to the Guardians' side of things - Jose Ramirez is batting a hefty .343 and he's taken the liberty of swiping 7 bases too. Nolan Jones and Angel Martinez are doing their bit in run productions and long balls as well with not-so-eye-popping numbers.
We look at the past games and it's been fairly neck and neck, with the Guardians bucking over the Jays 3 out of their last 5 fixtures. However, in terms of league standing, the Blue Jays hold a slight edge with a 41-36 win-loss record over the Guardians' 39-37. In addition, recent results indicate a slight curve up on the graph for Cleveland while Toronto's journey looks like a rollercoaster.
Considering all these delicious stats, my gut says we are likely to see Toronto fly high and proud today. But, don't count out the miracles Cleveland might pull out.
