If this were a rom-com, I'd say the bookies are writing a love letter to Medvedev. And why not? The Russian machine sits at the 10th seed. He's the star of a Twilight movie where everybody but Jacob gets a happy ending. Medvedev's recent court performance has had more ups than a kangaroo on a trampoline, trouncing opponents like Norrie and Nakashima. But hey, he ain't perfect. He took some setbacks against Ruud and de Minaur.
On the other hand, we have Popyrin, who's been a real Cinderella. Mr. 24th seed, not favoured or beloved as his opponent, but he's not here for a tea party. Anyway, he's won his last game against Taberner, but took a couple of slaps to the face from Bublik and Davidovich Fokina. Oh, and don't forget, Popyrin did secure a win against Medvedev, not so long ago.
To sign this off, if you're planning your next trip to the betting shop, well, remember folks, love means nothing in tennis... Oops, I promised I wouldn't start with 'folks'. Anyway, place your green on Medvedev; bullies in the schoolyard usually win.
Albert’s Prediction: Medvedev in 3 sets.
