Basavareddy in 3 setsAlright lords and ladies, grab a seat, let's have ourselves a little chinwag about the matchup between the one with the tongue-twisting name, Nishesh Basavareddy, and the guy trying to cause an upset, Luca Van Assche. Now, looking at recent performances, Basavareddy has a bit of love lost, two out of five bouts, while our man Van Assche didn't exactly steal the show with three out of five going the way of his opponents.
Van Assche fans, I recommend a stiff drink, because if these two were competing for longest name, sure, Luca would stand a chance. But on the court, it's grip-and-grin time for Basavareddy. His match-winning jackpot is looking solid, and it gives some indication that the wise men at the top think he's a good spend, if you catch my drift.
Let's not forget we're in Group Stages here, and seeds matter. We've got Basavareddy sitting at 7, nice and pretty like a newborn, and Van Assche at a close 6, which is, well, not quite a newborn. In this close contest, take a second to admire Basavareddy's grit. He's turning losses into lessons judging by his most recent performance.
I hate to break it to Luca fans, but our royal prediction leans quite clearly in favor of the American. He's got just a little more shine on his boots this time around. I don't see this being a walk in the park for either of them though. It's going to be a nail-biter, that's for sure.
