Trungelliti in 3 sets.If you've been following the Swiss Open, you'll likely be aware of the impending match and potential tug-of-war between Francisco Comesana, seeded 7, and Marco Trungelliti, who lamentably couldn't carve out a seed for himself. Not for lack of trying, I'm sure.
Our boy Comesana has had quite the falling-from-grace recently. Oh, how the mighty have fallen, as the old-timers would say. In his recent matches, he's veered away from the essence of victory like it's a particularly nasty bout of the flu. Even a rhino in roller skates would find more grace on the tennis court.
In Comesana's defense, Trungelliti hasn't been faring a boatload better. But unlike Comesana, he's had glimpses of his former glory with sporadic wins lined up with his losses. If he brings out the performance that had Bernet biting the dust, he'd have a better chance.
As much as tennis is about love, it's also about consistency, folks. Trungelliti, despite his lack of seed, is showing us glimpses of the times when he was on top of his game. He's got that vintage wine sort of vibe going on whereas Comesana is sadly proving to be more of a sour grape.
So, for the folks out there pondering over the winner of the rendezvous on Swiss turf, don't rule out the underdog just yet.
