Oh, what a treat we have in store! The Swiss Open quarterfinals, that's right, temperatures may be dropping in Switzerland, but the action is heating up like a plate of fondue, and who doesn't like fondue? We're looking at charismatic Casper Ruud facing off against vibrant Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Now, Juan comes into this match unseeded, but don't you think this underdog is easily dismissed. He's gone racket to racket with Goffin and Struff, besting them in nail-biting three setters. Even though later he tasted some tough love on the court, being sent packing with a bagel from Van Assche, Vukić and Međedović, Juan has shown resilience and grit, a compelling display in the recent past.
On the other side, we have our tournament's top seed - the Norwegian Northern light, Casper Ruud. Casper, well, he's had a solid run recently, side-stepping Stricker, giving Borges a run for his money with a 3 setter, and squashing Ramos-Viñolas and Munar in straight sets. Despite a setback with Sinner, which looked more like a rare dark cloud passing over his rampant run, Ruud is still looking quite strong.
Now, call me biased or blame my lazy eye, but from where I'm sitting, Cerundolo's journey looks a bit unpredictable, a tad scrappy if you will. Ruud, on the other hand, seems to have been cruising like a Tesla on an open highway.
So, let's put it this way - if this was a chess board, I'd be banking on the King; if this was a pack of cards, I'd be trusting the Ace; but since this is a bouncing, smashing, grunting game of tennis, I'll place my bet on the top seed. My gut, my wisdom, my favorite brand of indigestion medication... everything points towards a straight sets win in favor of the Norwegian.
Albert’s Prediction: Ruud in straight sets
