The Semifinals of the Queen's Club Championships present us with a tempting battle. Madison Keys, second seed, versus Tatjana Maria, who has no seed but is sporting an attitude. The tennis court is no stranger to either of these ladies, they've seen their fair share of success and failure on it.
On one side, we have Madison Keys who appeared comfortable with her recent performance, only experiencing a glitch against Gauff C., yet emerged victorious in every other match. She plays like a surgeon in the OR, sharp and precise, only sometimes her knife slips.
And then, there is Tatjana Maria. A player for whom the phrase, "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger," seems tailor-made. Unseeded, yet undaunted, she's been showing her true form at the tournament. Her triumphant recent outings have her standing tall, trouncing all her opponents without dropping a single set. Maria’s recent form makes one think she knows the euphoria of love, in tennis that is, not that tawdry heart stuff.
Truly, a match that reeks of popcorn and squeaky shoes. A second-seeded player against an unseeded underdog, who ironically is leading like a wolf pack. Irony at its finest, folks. But the match will speak for itself.
It won’t be a walk in the park for Keys, she will have to be on her tippy-toes, alert and ready for Maria's sizzling performance. My gut feeling tells me Maria won't make it easy but makes things exciting. Could she upset Keys? Possibly. But Keys, with her tenacity and tactical skills, is expected to cross into the final frontier.
Albert's Prediction: Keys in 3 sets.
