Seattle Storm by 3Ah, all eyes should be on the Seattle Storm and New York Liberty matchup. Let's put on our spectacles and take a closer look, shall we?
The Seattle Storm have been riding on the shoulders of Skylar Diggins and Nneka Ogwumike, both of whom have been putting impressive numbers on the board. Diggins recently averaged 19.9 points per game, while Ogwumike's latest stats show 18.1 points per game. Not to forget Gabby Williams, who’s been contributing significantly with an average of 12.3 points per game.
As for the New York Liberty, they're boasting standout performances from Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. Stewart's score tallies an impressive 22.2 points per game, with Ionescu hot on her heels at 19.3. The Liberty's Natasha Cloud has also been blowing up a storm with an average of 9.3 points per match recently.
Looking at past performances, it's like watching an intense game of ping pong. The ball is in anyone's court. The previous five matches have been a back-and-forth with Seattle taking home two wins and the Liberty securing three.
With the regular season record, Liberty seems to hold a slight edge with 12 wins, while Storm has managed to bag 11 wins. However, recently, Liberty seems to have been slightly off-base, with two losses and only a solitary win against the Sparks. But, of course, we can't overlook the fact that the Storm won their most recent match against the Liberty, a slick win at that.
The current standings position Liberty on the #2 slot while the Storm hangs close behind at #5. This does give the Liberty a higher ground, a small advantage, but definitely noteworthy.
Taking all this into account, however, we must acknowledge that both teams pack a serious punch and the game could swing either way. Each team has its shining stars and has shown some serious drive in the season so far. But trusting those old gut instincts, a blend of experience and ingenuity, despite the majority favoring Liberty's odds, perhaps the tide will turn for the Seattle Storm, after their most recent encounter.
