First, we trot out stats for the Aces. A'ja Wilson is pumping out 22 points per game last month, an uptick from her season average of 21.5. What's the phrase, hotter than a two-dollar pistol? Now Jackie Young, another Ace up their sleeve, is putting up 16 ppg and 4.4 rpg last month, nipping just below her season average. Old reliable Chelsea Gray rounds them out with 10.8 ppg and 4.8 rebounds last month.
On the other hand, the Wings aren't exactly outmatched. Paige Bueckers has topped off her stats, delivering a sweet 19.1 points last month. She's been the prime force behind the Dallas team trying their darnedest to flutter up the table. Aziaha James and Arike Ogunbowale are chipping in too with 13.3 and 15.0 ppg respectively last month.
Now let's take a little walk down memory lane, shall we? And by that, I of course mean examining past matchups. I hope you've got your popcorn ready, because these clashes have been anything but dull. The last five games have mostly tipped in the Aces' favor, with Dallas only stealing a single W in 2024.
Our two teams haven't exactly been household names this season, with the Aces tucked away at number 9 and the Wings fluttering all the way down at number 12 in the WNBA standings. To add insult to injury, their recent records aren't winning any beauty pageants either. The Aces have been coasting on a rocky road, winning against the Golden State Valkyries then stumbling against the Washington Mystics and losing to New York Liberty. The Wings? They've been flapping in the breeze, with defeats scattered around an occasional victory.
The way I see it, the Aces might just have the edge in this one. Sure, the Wings conspicuously lack home-advantage wings, but that hasn't stopped the Aces from running down the score in the past.
