Alright, let's slice and dice this one. We've got the Connecticut Sun trotting onto the court against the Seattle Storm. A knee injury for the Sun's Marina Mabrey makes the game, I daresay, even more exciting. One could speculate her 16.2 points per game and “can-do” spirit will truly be missed. Then there's Sun's Tina Charles, consistently bringing in 16.2 points per game this season, not to mention her teammate Olivia Nelson-Ododa, who had a modest average of 7.3 points per game last month.
Now to the Storm. Nneka Ogwumike, Skylar Diggins, and Gabby Williams are your names to know. Ogwumike is bagging 16.6 points per game and pulling down 7.5 rebounds, helped by Diggins with an impressive 18.5 points per game. Williams isn't far behind, averaging solid 15.1 points last month.
Now, a quick throwback. The last encounters between these teams have been a mixed bag. Most recently the Storm trumped the Sun 71 to 64, but before that, the Sun had their day in the sun with a 93 to 86 victory. Consistent? Hardly.
Recent form? Sun are staring at a disastrous losing streak. Their record this season would make a billy goat puke: 2 wins and 13 losses. That's a hard pill to swallow. The Storm, on the other hand, is quite the palate cleanser, coming in with a not too shabby 9-6.
Don't ignore the standings, folks. Sun clearly needs some sunscreen at #13 while the Storm is on cloud nine, sitting comfortably at #5.
With all factors considered, Mabrey’s injury tilting the table, and taking into account the Sun’s inability to secure recent victories, the scales tip, almost gracefully, towards the Seattle Storm.
