Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters by 2Ah, this matchup, the Orix Buffaloes facing the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, is stirring more drama than my cousin Terry at a family reunion.
If we look at the recent history of clashes between the two juggernauts, you'll find that the Buffaloes, bless their hearts, have been under the the heel of their opponents. Out of the five recent past encounters, the Fighters pack a punch with a 4-0-1 record. The sole draw result makes me curious to see if the Buffaloes have some tricks up their cloves.
However, as with most things in life, success comes in streaks and the regular season records could illuminate our path here. The Fighters sit comfortabley with a 47-31 win-loss record while the Buffaloes trail behind with a 43-32. The gap may not be significant, but again, the Buffaloes could use some magic, perhaps in the form of a new pair of glasses for the umpire.
Let's check the pulse on recent performance. As of late, the Buffaloes have been a bit inconsistent. I've seen better batting consistency at a T-ball game. It seems as if their bats have decided to take an early summer vacation. The Fighters, on the other hand, have been on a stomp. Heck, even their mascot could probably hit a home run right now.
Keeping mind of all these factors, I'm thinking we're in for fun night. The Fighters have been cooking with gas lately and are inclined to keep the momentum going. But if the Buffaloes can pull together an upset, after multiple rounds of commiseratory sake for being wrong, I'll hoist them on my shoulders in spirit. However, I doubt I'll need that aspirin in the morning.
