Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles by 2
Ah, here we are. The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles slugging it out with the Saitama Seibu Lions. Really gives you that sense of grandeur, doesn't it? Now, don't get too antsy, let me paint you a picture.
Our dear Eagles have, well, they've got a less than shiny record, coming in at 36 wins and 40 losses. Certainly not something you'd write home about. On the other hand, the Lions, true to their majestic nature, are strutting a more balanced record of 39 wins and the same amount of losses. So, on paper, it would seem the Lions should have this tight-knit match easily.
But, and here's a caveat, don't let that be your selling point because if we look into the past engagements between these two titans, the Eagles have proven that 'paper' doesn't always translate to 'reality'. In the last five showdowns between these teams, the Eagles have carried home the day four times. So, if history has a funny way of repeating itself, which we know it often does, then the Lions might be in for a rough ride.
Peek at the recent games and, well, it seems like the Golden Eagles got lost against the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters. The Seibu Lions didn’t fare any better recently, either. Looks like they still have the sting from Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks handy. So, in my humble, slightly mischievous opinion, this looks to be a tossing coin situation, with each having their own strengths and weaknesses.
Alright, enough of the silliness. Looking at this game - it's going to be a hair-raiser. Based on the precursors - and believe me when I tell you, these are very interesting precursors - I'm having a lean (a very slight lean) towards the Golden Eagles.
Let me leave you with this...
