Auburn Tigers by 15Talking about a David and Goliath situation here, what a juicy matchup! We've got the Ole Miss Rebels going head to head with the behemoth Auburn Tigers. Right off the bat, let me tell you - this might not be a walk in the park for the Rebels.
Let's dissect this tad bit. Rebels' marquee player Sean Pedulla has been knocking down 16 points a game in the last month, along with 3.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists. This kid's been throwing balls into baskets like it's as easy as pie. Jaemyn Brakefield and Malik Dia, no slouches either, contributing 12.3 and 12.0 points per game, respectively. Even with this firepower, taking on the Auburn Tigers isn't going to be like shooting fish in a barrel.
The Tigers have a monster in their ranks, Johni Broome, a man with averages of 19.8 points and 11.7 rebounds per game over the last month. Not to forget Chad Baker-Mazara and Denver Jones, everybody's worst nightmare hovering around the double digits in points. Getting past these guys would be like trying to hurdle a skyscraper!
Thumbing through the history books, we notice that the Tigers have had the upper hand during most past dust-ups between these two. The Rebels had a cut at them several times but were always looking up at the scoreboard at the end of those meetings. Ain't history a brute?
Now, the Rebels don't bad a bad record this season - 19 wins and 8 losses. Nothing to sneer at. But let's get real, the Tigers with 25 wins and a measly 2 losses are in another league - they're the top dogs for a reason.
Lately, the Rebels seem to be on shaky ground, losing to the Commodores and the Bulldogs. The Tigers, meanwhile, have been rampaging through the ranks untouched, notching up win after win.
So putting all these variables into the big old prediction blender, it's going to be a tough road for the Rebels.
Oh, almost forgot - the Rebels didn't even make a blip on the AP ranking list while the Tigers are lounging at the top of the SEC heap.
