If basketball were a Shakespearean drama, we'd be talking about the talented titans versus the dogged underdogs. So on one end, we've got the Florida Gators, tad bit stronger and definitely a more potent cocktail of skills and strategy perched comfortably on their #3 perch.
Their lineup brims with talent, namely our old friends Walter Clayton, who has had a marvellous season so far with a net average of 17.1 points per game, and Thomas Haugh. Now, let's not mistake Haugh's overall seasonal stats for his true potential. His performance last month, ladies and gents, tells a far more compelling story, with his diligent rebounding and respectable three-point game, Courtesy of 12.8 points per game and 8.8 rebounds.
On the other side of the court, we've got the Georgia Bulldogs, an eager pack sans an official AP ranking. Round-faced and twitching with untapped potential, they step into this match with their heads held high and Asa Newell and Silas Demary leading the charge. Their stats might not be as flashy as the Gators', but their consistent performance has evidently kept them afloat so far. Plus, who doesn't love an underdog? Makes for a good game and possibly, a tighter spread on your loaf of bread.
Now, a brief nod to history: tune into the past static and you'll hear the Gators grinning with four of their last five encounters against the Bulldogs going in their favor.
Regular season records? The Gators nibble at a comfortable 24-3, compared to Bulldogs' 16-11. Recent results make the Bulldogs' trail seem a tad uneven, a bit topsy turvy for my liking.
So here's how I see it-- and history might lubricate this prediction a touch-- if they keep their current mojo going, the Gators seem poised to win this one, perhaps by a margin that might push past your expectations. But, hey, that's basketball.
