In today's matchup, we have the New York Yankees paying a visit to the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, a park that slightly tilts the scales towards our pitchers. Speaking of hurlers, we've got Clarke Schmidt taking the mound for the Yanks rocking a solid 3.17 ERA and Chris Bassitt stepping up for the Jays with a somewhat inflated ERA at 4.40.
The Blue Jays would be hoping Bassitt curbs the offensive prowess of the Yankees' top guns – Jazz Chisholm Jr., DJ LeMahieu and Aaron Judge who’ve been swinging pretty impressive sticks recently. However, the Jays are not bereft of offensive arsenal, with the likes of Ernie Clement and Alejandro Kirk showing some heft when it comes to crunching those numbers on the average. Not to forget the ever-dangerous George Springer, who’s been loud with the bat.
Looking at their past pugilistic encounters, the Blue Jays recently came out on top, handing the Yankees three consecutive losses, putting a fresh twist on their seasonal head-to-head. Certainly, the recent results of the Yanks look a little lukewarm, with their seasonal record slightly better than the Jays.
Marveling at all these factors, and remembering the limited-edition snow globe from the ’97 World Series Finals that I use as a crystal ball sometimes, I'd say the Jays are set for a win in their nest. However, the run margin in baseball is a fickle mistress, but I'll take a guess anyway.
