Philadelphia Phillies by 2
Forget the hoagies and fish tacos, folks, 'cause we've got a different offering on the menu today—a good ol' fashioned baseball showdown between the San Diego Padres and Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. And something tells me, it's gonna be the cheesesteak that reigns supreme this time around.
In the starting pitchers department for the Padres, we have Matt Waldron, a pitcher with a bit of a mixed bag season last time around. He's looking to control the runs but remember Philly's playing in their home park which has a bit of an affinity for the hitters.
On the flip side, Philly's front ace, Zack Wheeler, presents an impressive pedigree with an ERA of just 2.58 this season. Not to mention, that Whip! He's been whipping the ball, and with a home field advantage, the Padres might get caught looking an awful lot today.
Let's talk players. The Padres got a trio of noteworthy sluggers: Arraez, Machado, and Cronenworth. Putting numbers on the board all right, but not exactly painting the Sistine Chapel. On the other hand, the Phillies lineup features a band of consistent hitters, particularly Marsh and Bohm, who've been picking corners with the batting averages up in the .300s.
Looking back, the past Pads-Phils encounters saw a pretty balanced scale—swing one way one day and the other way the next. But, remember we're at Citizens Bank Park, so Philly has a little extra kick todays—it's been known to spice up those bats a bit more.
As for the regular season records, Phillies held the superior position with 49 wins against Padres' 45. Recent wins and losses had both teams looking a bit like a game of Ping-Pong, but remember folks, it's not about how you start, but how you finish.
So, where does that leave the betting man? Or woman—equal opportunity after all. Well, I'm putting my money on the home hitters and Wheeler's arm to seal the deal.
