My Prediction
New York Mets by 1Don't blink or you'll miss it, baseball fans. The next showdown that's steaming up the bat this season is Miami Marlins squaring off against the New York Mets at Citi Field.
Now, let's gab about the guys on the mound. For Miami, we have Connor Gillispie, showing some consistent pitching skills, just proving he's no summer fling with a WHIP of 1.20 and 9.0 K/9 this season. The Mets, though, have Clay Holmes starting up the game. I might add, Mr. Holmes does not lack mystery in his play, queue the high WHIP of 2.02, but hey, he does strike out more with 10.7 K/9, so there's that.
The Marlins are bringing in some great performers, including Matt Mervis swinging at a .286 batting average and Otto "El rapidez" Lopez sitting quite comfortably at .244 batting average and 7 RBIs. On the other side, the Mets' Pete Alonso is muscling .314 batting average, with 11 RBIs, and 3 home runs. It feels like Halloween with all these numbers.
Looking at the teams' history of encounters, it’s more flip-floppy than my Uncle Joe trying to stick to a diet. The Mets bagged the last game, but hey before that, both teams were trading victories. The current season records suggest that both teams are quite neck-to-neck. Marlins with 5 wins and 4 losses and Mets with 6 wins and 3 losses. And talking about recent games, Mets have Giants-like footsteps with consecutive wins, whereas the Marlins have been more like uncle Joe doing the Hokey Pokey.
With Citi Field's low scoring trend, expect the pitchers to enjoy the spotlight a bit.
Time to bring it on home. Taking into account the matchup, previous trends, current form and the venue, here's...
