It's a fine day for baseball in the Great American Ball Park, and Cincinnati seems to have an edge today with home field advantage. A batter's paradise, fly balls practically take flight on their own here. Jonathan Cannon will be at the mound for the White Sox. With his 4.23 ERA and a strikeout rate of around 7 per nine innings this season, he's proven he can hold his own. However, Cincinnati’s Andrew Abbott, boasting a 2.63 ERA and striking out hitters at a rate of 11.6 per nine innings, has been the obnoxious chink in the armor for opposing teams.
The White Sox's brave trio, Edgar Quero, Lenyn Sosa and Luis Robert Jr., will aim to disturb Abbott's dominance with their hitting. Though their recent form has been less than stellar, some of the best stories are written with the odd upset. The Reds, however, don't want to be on the wrong end of that story. They've got Santiago Espinal, Austin Hays, and Elly De La Cruz, who brings strength in both hitting and speed.
Looking at recent history, the Reds have maintained a dominant presence over the White Sox. Something in the Cincinnati chili perhaps? Might be, since the Reds seem to enjoy a hearty helping during their games against the White Sox, shown clearly in their past matchups.
If we are talking about form, the White Sox have had a torrid season with only 12 wins to their 29 losses against a slightly more consistent Cincinnati at 20 wins and 22 losses. Looks like they've at least won the battle of stumbling less.
The White Sox are trying to claw their way back after a cringeworthy loss to Kansas City, but managed a win against Miami most recently. The Reds, while they had to swallow a bitter loss against Houston, their last few games show a balance of wins and losses. Can they strike the hot iron and deliver a win? Time shall tell.
Considering all these factors, it's going to be a tough outing for our Chi-Town boys playing in the batter’s haven against a dominant Cincinnati pitcher and a stout batting lineup. I'd put my money on the Reds pulling ahead, although if you've tracked my predictions in the past, you might take that with caution.
