Strap on your baseball caps, ladies and gents, we've got the Washington Nationals squaring off against the Atlanta Braves at, none other than, Truist Park. Nothing too friendly for pitchers with its neutrality.
Sorry to disappoint Nationals' fans, but your man on the mound - Mike Soroka - has been allowing batters to have a bit of a party this season, with a generous ERA of 7.20. Meanwhile, the Braves' pitcher, Spencer Schwellenbach, has been quite the gatekeeper with a more respectable ERA of 3.69 - a significant difference, you might agree.
Moving onto the battalions we have the Braves' Drake Baldwin and Austin Riley putting up some impressive stats. Baldwin has been lighting it up with a batting average of 0.400 and Riley's sitting pretty with a 0.308 average and 6 home runs. Swinging over to the Nationals, CJ Abrams and James Wood have been carrying their team. Abrams boasts a fine 0.352 batting average and Wood's amassed 6 home runs.
In terms of historical head-to-heads, they've been exchanging pleasantries rather evenly - an even split in the last 5 encounters. Although, regular season records do give a slight edge to the Braves with 19 wins to 17 for the Nationals.
In recent games, the Nationals have been on a bit of a slide while the Braves have had their share of highs and lows.
So, into the nitty gritty - the prediction. It feels to me that the Braves, with their better pitching and solid batting, have got this one in their back pockets, especially at their own den, quaintly known as Truist Park (and to think for a moment there, you thought it was a bank).
So eyeballs to the screen, Washington versus Atlanta it is...
Albert’s Prediction: Atlanta Braves by 2.
