Don't get too comfy in your seat as we dissect this matchup between the Minnesota Twins and the Baltimore Orioles. The dancefloor for this waltz is Oriole Park at Camden Yards, where the ball tends to favor the guy at bat a smidgen more than the fella at the mound.
Stepping on the rubber for Minnesota, we've got Chris Paddack. Sporting a 4.82 ERA and a K/9 of just 6.9, Paddack's had his fair share of rough outings this season. Juxtapose that to the Orioles' ace, Tomoyuki Sugano, who packs a punch with a 2.78 ERA and, while not necessarily a strikeout machine with a 5.2 K/9, has demonstrated effective control with a WHIP of 1.04.
Bring out the sellout crowd, because Harrison Bader and Byron Buxton for the Twins have been popping off this season. Bader owns a sizzling 0.343 average and Buxton has been driving runners in with 20 RBIs and 7 homers. When you bring in Trevor Larnach into the mix, solid player with 19 RBIs and 7 dingers, Twins line-up looks formidable. For the Orioles, one can’t overlook Emmanuel Rivera with a 0.367 average but admittedly lacks the power stroke. It’s been Gunnar Henderson and Ryan O'Hearn who have the homers, stacking up 6 apiece for the Orioles.
Looking into history's rearview mirror, it seems the Twins have been repeatedly giving the Orioles a reality check, outscoring the Birds in their last five meetings. Undeniably, this has to leave a bad taste in the mouths of the Baltimore squad.
Considering each team's seasonal performance, the Twins with an over 0.500 record hold ground over the underperforming Orioles, who have tasted defeat more often than victory this season. Add to the mix, Twins recent victories, including over the Orioles, and we have quite a treat on our hands.
Keeping these points in mind, I'm pulling for the Twins to add another notch in the win column. But given the Orioles' favorable batting conditions at Camden Yards and Sugano's form on the mound, the Orioles won't make it easy.
