Oh dear, where does one start with this clunker of a match-up? The Seattle Mariners are favored by a smidgen, lining up against the Los Angeles Angels who, let's be frank, are having a season so rough, it's starting to look like a pumice stone.

The stage for this little drama is Angel Stadium, which, little tip, gets a wee bit friendly with bats. Not great news for the pitchers. Now, speaking of tossers, for the Mariners, Bryan Woo's been throwing a mean ball this season with an impressive 1.79 ERA. Compare that with the Angels' Tyler Anderson, who's sporting a passable 2.87 ERA. Advantage? Mariners.

Now, don't get me started on Seattle's Victor Robles, primed and ready with his .412 batting average and Dominic Canzone flicking away with a .259, while the Angels' top hitter tops out at .294. That's right, Nolan Schanuel clicks in at a few points under .300, and Logan O'Hoppe isn't helping the Angels' cause with a .287. A lopsided tilt, to be generous.

Looking at the past face-offs between these teams, Seattle scoffs at the Angels without a bat of an eyelash. They've been consistent winners, including a most recent thrashing, an 11-0 embarrassment. Our LA friends must still be reeling.

And the regular season records up till now have Seattle well ahead at 52-43, while the Angels are floundering like a fish on a hot dock at 38-55. Recent games? More of the same. Mariners delivering a painful 11-0 jolt to the Angels, and a modest win over San Diego. The Angels, they've been mixing it up, no real trend, but certainly no spark of hope in sight.

So, pull up your socks, sports fans. Here's the take you've waited for, the chalk dust prediction of yours truly.
