Seattle Mariners by 3Ah, this sizzling Seattle Mariners vs. Detroit Tigers' clash. Unfolding in the cool, pitcher-friendly oasis of Comerica Park, it's certainly a throwdown for the ages.
On the mound, we've got a bit of an ironic showdown. Logan Gilbert's 4.01 ERA and 1.06 WHIP season record for the Mariners presents a statistically cleaner sheet than Detroit's Jack Flaherty with a somewhat dicey 4.91 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Not to mention, Gilbert's tossing strikes like he's playing darts at the pub, with a stunning 13.2 K/9. Nasty, indeed.
Speaking of nasty... or rather, ghastly, the recent meetings between these two teams have been rougher on the Tigers than a cheap carpet, with the Mariners winning two out of five games by average margins only mathematicians could love.
The Mariner's shining player of the last month, Dominic Canzone, with his .350 batting average, is making the rest of the major league look as though they're hitting with a broomstick. Other key players, Donovan Solano and Cal Raleigh, aren't exactly slouching either.
But let's not ignore the Tigers. They've got the likes of Zach McKinstry and Colt Keith boasting over .300 batting averages, and Riley Greene's sent out 10 home runs, which is not too shabby.
Regular season record, you ask? Well the Tigers are in the lead on paper, but recent results don't favor either team in any consistent manner.
