Looks like we're on deck for a scorching matchup between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Angels. Speaking of on deck, let's talk about the lineups.
For the Diamondbacks, the boys to keep an eye on would be Eugenio Suarez and Ketel Marte. Suarez has a smoking-hot average of 0.292 and has racked up an impressive 25 RBIs and 12 homers this season. Marte isn’t lagging too far behind either with a .279 average, 18 RBIs and 7 home runs in his ledger. Aren't these the kinds of figures that just tickle your fancy?
Over on the Angels’ side of the diamond, batters Mike Trout and Jo Adell deserve our attention. Despite struggling with a 0.255 batting average this season, Trout’s power at the plate cannot be ignored with those 7 juicy home runs. Adell is having a decent season herself with .279 average, 20 RBIs, and 6 homers. Not bad, not bad at all.
Now let's talk quicksilver, the men on the mound. Arizona's Merrill Kelly has posted a solid ERA of 3.53 and an impressive 1.07 WHIP. Los Angeles, though, will reply with José Soriano, whose stats are a bit more generous, at 4.11 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. As we often see folks, baseball can be a cruel mistress.
Turning our attention to past matchups, it seems the Angels rocked the boat more often in their recent encounters. But, as Mother always said, what's past is past.
Lastly, if this were a popularity contest based on recent regular season wins, the Angels would win by a hair's breadth, or at least a thin whisker, given their 47-48 record slightly trumps the Diamondbacks’ 46-50 record.
But as we know, it’s about who shows up on the day and not who looked prettier yesterday. After some analysis and, more importantly, picking the perfect setting on my crystal ball here, I spill the beans...
