Ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your seats because we've got a tantalizing face off here--Raphael Collignon against Nuno Borges. I'd bet some of you probably don't recognize the name Collignon, right? Well, that's because the man is as unseeded as a sugar-free watermelon.
Let's talk form. Collignon pulled off an impressive win recently against Fognini F., took that match in straight sets, and folks, Fognini isn't exactly a pushover. But, that was a burst of sunshine in an otherwise cloudy sky. Our man Raph was knocked out twice in two sets by Međedović and Landaluce and stung by an embarrassing loss to Bellucci way back when your calendar still read 2023.
On the other side, we have Borges. Can't say he's been firing all cylinders lately with defeats by Bergs and Dimitrov. However, he managed to take out a match against Rinderknech and Fils. Now, Rinderknech isn't exactly Federer, but a win's a win. Let's not forget Borges also counts as the 4th seed in this tournament.
So, based on past performance, some might be tempted to put their money on the underdog Collignon. Ah, the romance of sports! But remember, folks, romance doesn’t always pay the bills. Borges, for all his recent slip-ups, still has a better track record than the unseeded Collignon.
That said, don't expect a one-sided affair. I'm betting my rarely wrong, hardly ever right, slightly obnoxious color commentator’s prediction on Borges, but he'll have to work for it.
Albert’s Prediction: Borges in 3 sets.
