So there’s absolutely no reason you would need a seeing-eye dog for this one, folks - Jordan Thompson and Ethan Quinn, two specimens of athletic prowess on the clay court, are gearing up for a showdown at the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships.
Jordan Thompson, our 6th seed, comes in with more experience and on paper, a better overall track record. And we don't have to dig up the Dead Sea Scrolls to remember Thompson’s victories over Mpetshi Perricard and Giron. Noticeably, however, the chap’s been dipping his Kangaroo paws in the defeat bowl a few times recently, hurdled by Zverev and Moutet, no small names in the realm of tennis, mind you.
Opposite this we have Ethan Quinn. The guy's picture probably won't be on Wikipedia's page for "unseeded success stories" just yet, but don't dismiss him outright. Quinn battled through a set-struggled victory over Ugo Carabelli and Mannarino, showing he can claw back from a rocky start. However, defeats at the hands of Schoolkate and Bergs cast a concerning shadow, a question mark hanging over his ability to consistently serve up winners.
Now, bear in mind I’m not in the business of handing out lottery numbers or revealing Colonel Sanders' secret recipe, but with Thompson's higher seeding and a more consistent love score distribution, despite the defeat sprinkles in his tennis sundae, smart money tends to latch onto favorites. Grit might be Quinn's middle name, but Thompson has been in this court before.
Albert’s Prediction: Thompson in 3 sets.
