Geelong Cats by 17Let's take a gander at this much-anticipated clash between the Geelong Cats and the Greater Western Sydney Giants, shall we? Now, these two have been relatively evenly matched in their past encounters. Our feline friends from Geelong just couldn't claw their way to victory last couple of times round. Still, past performance isn't always an indicator of future success, unless you're my ex-wife's lawyer.
Shimmying on over to the seasonal stats, Geelong's had a reasonably gaudy showing, fractionally better than their counterparts from Sydney. It's a cat's whisker of a difference, really. The Giants seem to be on a bit of a roller coaster, what with some wins and some losses; it's more up and down than a kangaroo on a trampoline. Meanwhile, the Cats have been maintaining a bit more consistency than a hot pie at half-time.
Position-wise these two are rubbing shoulders in the middle of the AFL standings chart, with the Cats just one meow above the Giants. Positioning isn't everything, of course, but it's noteworthy. I once finished first in a hot dog eating contest, and look where that got me.
