I tell you, it's like watching a turtle race a snail in this round 9 face-off between the St Kilda Saints and the Carlton Blues. These two teams have seen each other across the pitch like a pair of old gunslingers at high noon. The Saints managed to squeak by with a 76-74 win back in August 2024, but I reckon the Blues haven't forgotten that bitter taste of defeat.
Now looking at these mediocre regular season records, we've got the Blues singing a sob song at 3-5, while the Saints are barely keeping their halo on at 4-4. Balancing itself out there, I suppose.
Recent games tell us the Blues have had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel, taking a thumping from Adelaide, but bouncing back against Geelong. It's like a game of AFL hopscotch. On the other hand, the Saints thrashed Fremantle but bowed their heads to Brisbane. It seems both teams are playing hot potato with their momentum.
The Saints have the slightly higher standing, sitting at #10 compared to the Blues at #13. But we all know that in the AFL standings, it’s like the difference between the last cookie and the second to last cookie left on the plate.
With all of these brewing like a cup of tea in mind, I'm calling this one in favor of the Blues. Even a blind squirrel occasionally finds a nut, after all.
