Collingwood Magpies by 2If we journey into the past match-ups between our two upcoming gladiators, the Dockers and the Magpies, it's a mixed bag of pick-and-mix candy. A peculiar draw last year, and a rather pansy-like performance by the Dockers the year before that, losing to the Magpies by a whopping 46 points. The Dockers, however, have been doing their homework and going to the gym, coming into this match slightly favored.
But let's not neglect the elephant in the room: Collingwood's 6-win streak earlier in the season. They have a better win-loss ratio than the Dockers this season, although their performances have been as consistent as my morning coffee - strong at times, weak at others, and occasionally ending up in a mess.
Dockers' recent results are a swing dance of inconsistency - they have had a couple of losses that took the wind out of their sails, especially that crushing defeat to St Kilda. But they've had their victories too, their demolition of Richmond was like watching Moby Dick taking out Captain Ahab.
In terms of the standings, Collingwood's got the shiny #2 spot, while Dockers are sitting in a rather modest #9. But in the immortal words of Shakespeare "What's in a rank?" It's all to play for in round 9 folks, the finish line is still a fair way off.
I'd wager on an exciting clash, folks. It seems to me that the Dockers have the wind behind their sails, yet the Magpies have a knack for swooping in when least expected. However, the Dockers will be sailing into a storm against the Magpies who like to guard their nest fiercely.
