My Prediction
Cirstea in 3 sets.Sweeping the cobwebs of the obvious off to one side, let's delve into the upcoming semifinal smackdown between Sorana Cirstea and Jil Teichmann.
Talk about past reminders! Our last “friendly meeting” between these gals was a lopsided affair, with the clock rolling back to a distant February Saturday. Teichmann, or “Flashback Jil” as I call her, took those games as though she was shooing off a pesky fly. Easy peasy.
But let’s not let past wins cloud our crystal ball. Teichmann’s recent showings have been less "flash" and more "back", she’s riding a topsy-turvy wave, losing to Bronzetti and Sabalenka, but managing to squeak out victories against Waltert, Chwalińska, and Bulgaru.
In the opposite corner, don’t make the mistake of putting Sorana in the corner. No seeding? No problem. Cirstea has thrown back her competitors with the cool precision of an ice sculpting competition, squaring off against Carle, Gracheva, and Buzarnescu with ruthless resolve. She did let Baptiste and Tomljanović breeze past, but let's not nitpick.
Keep your pants on, Teichmann might be 6th seed and 'Flashback Jil' has the edge in head-to-head, but Cirstea, our uninvited guest, is relentless. She's tougher than a two-dollar steak and has been strutting her stuff with some consistent gameplay in recent outings.
