Alexandrova in straight sets. There, I've said it. Don't say I didn't warn you if your heart was set on Werner, because it's going to be a tall task for her.You've got to appreciate the effort Caroline Werner is putting on the court. Taking the previous matches into account, she's been consistent, like a robot programmed to mow down opponents 2-0. But, alas, not every day is a sunny day, is it?
With all due respect, she's up against the number one seed, Ekaterina Alexandrova. Now, there's a name that sends a chill down a competitor's spine. She's not just handing out tennis lessons for fun, she's been forcing her opponents to eat humble pie - all except for a tiny stumble against Bencic which, let's be honest, could happen to anybody.
So, coming back to Werner, she's been a revelation at the Hamburg Open for sure. Still, in the words of Shakespeare, "Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them". Alexandrova, my dear friends, was clearly born with a racket in hand.
To put it in betting terms, think of it like a picnic basket against a full-sized fridge. You might get a good sandwich out of Werner, but Alexandrova's got the whole buffet. By no means am I saying she's invincible, but there's a good reason why she's the favorite here.
So, with all the love I can muster for an underdog, I'm still putting my money - metaphorically, of course, I am a professional - on Alexandrova. She's got the consistency, the snowball-like momentum, and the pressure is something she eats for breakfast with some caviar on top.
