My Prediction
Vekic in 3 sets.Breaking from tradition, we're not starting with the stereotypical: "Well folks..." Even if I have a deep, irresistible urge to do so. Today, we shovel ourselves deep into the clay courts of Rome where we're set for a nail-biting showdown, Bianca Andreescu up against Donna Vekic.
Andreescu's had a rocky year, winning some, losing some, and occasionally at the time of an afternoon cappuccino. Rybakina E. delivered a clean knockout, two sets to love, and Lamens, well, she made Andreescu work for her breadsticks. The only solid performance was against Urgesi F.
Vekic, on the other hand, despite a more consistent performance, appears to have the occasional bout of butterfingers herself. She's dropped matches against Keys, Masarova, and Fett. Though she does appear to be in the groove lately, so the odds makers seem to think anyway.
The eh-hem! 'love' history between these two players has Vekic leading with a clean slate, 2 to love. But remember, the course of history can always change, just ask Columbus.
Vekic also has the advantage in ranking (20), while Andreescu, the poor girl, remains unseeded. Traditionally, the seed list does offer some insight in our tea leaf reading, but we have seen many upsets in this erratic sport.
I'll be needing a stiff espresso shot to keep my excitement under control... said no one ever. Nonetheless, keep an eye on your popcorn as this could be a spicy contest indeed, despite a clear favorite lurking in the shadows. My prediction?
