St. Louis Blues by 2In this high-stakes showdown between St. Louis Blues and Los Angeles Kings, tensions are going to be as thick as hockey rink ice. Both teams have goalkeepers who've pulled their weight in past performances. Still, one can't ignore the sterling records of St. Louis' Jordan Binnington and Joel Hofer, with last month's save percentages of 91.0 and 88.6 respectively. The Kings' Darcy Kuemper and David Rittich hold their own, but seem to lag behind in recent stats.
Leading the charge on the forward lines, Robert Thomas and Pavel Buchnevich from the Blues have had notable performances. Thomas posted 10 assists and 4 goals last month while primary support comes from Buchnevich with his 10 assists and 2 goals. On the Kings' side, it's Kevin Fiala and Warren Foegele leading the fray. Fiala with his hefty 8 goals last month is not one to be taken lightly. Foegele, matching Fiala's scoring fervor, comes with 5 goals and 3 assists recently. On an interesting note, Quinton Byfield hasn’t found the back of the net in the last month, though his 11 assists are quite impressive.
Past encounters are also quite revealing with the Blues trumping the Kings 3 out of 5 times. Certainly, the regular season records not bode well for the Blues who've had 29 wins compared to the Kings' 31. However, if recent results speak volumes then it appears that the Blues have momentum on their side, from curves of their blades to their brutal checks, coming off a 4-1 win over the Kings.
All things considered, from goalkeepers' cat-like agility to top players' voracious appetite for scoring and importantly, the team’s recent forms – it's high time for Blues to storm the Kings' castle and lay siege to their victory streak.
