If this basketball game was a love story, it would be about the Minnesota Timberwolves and their smoldering love affair with winning. The Timberwolves, with their disruptive duo of Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle, have been more overpowering recently than a garlic-breath teddy bear on Valentine’s day. Edwards and Randle have been churning more numbers than Wall Street, averaging an impressive 28.1 and 16.3 points respectively. They also have a substantial supporting cast including Donte DiVincenzo and Naz Reid, who have added a level of depth and dynamism to the Wolves' offense.
On the cooling side of the pillow we find the Utah Jazz, who seem to be playing basketball like a horror movie -- lots of suspense, but a rather predictable and disappointing ending. Although John Collins and Collin Sexton have proven to be solid scorers for the Jazz, there just doesn't seem to be enough sweet music playing here to match up to the Timberwolves’ sonata of success.
The history books have been penned favourably for the Timberwolves, who have turned the Jazz over like pancakes in their past few meetings. The regular-season record sings a similar tune, with Minnesota hitting a higher note with a 25-21 record, while Utah has hit nothing but sour notes with a 10-35 record.
Looking at the recent results, I wouldn't exactly call them "good times" for the Jazz. I've seen more success in a meat-free butcher’s shop, to be frank. It’s a harsh contrast to the Timberwolves, who have been strutting their stuff like they’ve got a season pass on the yellow brick road.
So, what does this mean for our game? Well, if I were a betting man, and it’s clear I am - when was the last time you saw an elephant hiding in a strawberry patch? Right, never, because I stand out saying I have got the Timberwolves taking this one. Let’s say, by a solid 8-point margin. Now, with this kind of insight, you don’t need a fortune cookie to tell you who to root for tonight.
