My Prediction
New York City FC by 1If there's a David and Goliath story in soccer, this might be it. A tale of two cities, if you will. Charlotte FC, donning their young but slightly unpredictable armor, is up against New York City FC which is as revered as a well-aged wine.
NYCFC comes in strong and in command with their knight, Tomás Romero in the goal. Romero? More like Remora, the fish that sticks to sharks, because this guy has been sticking to the ball like glue this season with an impressive 7.27 rating and 10 saves. On the other hand, we have Charlotte's pair of goalkeeping stormtroopers, David Bingham (7.50 rating and 7 saves) and Kristijan Kahlina (6.50 rating and 7 saves). Round one goes to Romero.
To the victors belong the spoils, and NYCFC is spoilt for choice when it comes to top players. We've got the likes of Mitja Ilenič (8.40 rating, 1 goal) and Hannes Wolf (8.00 rating, 3 goals), both solid options for a desert island. Joining them is Maxi Moralez who, despite only netting one goal recently, holds a notable 7.40 rating.
On the other side of the grass, it’s a slightly different story for Charlotte FC. Here we have a trio consisting of Pep Biel (7.90 rating, 2 goals), Bill Tuiloma (7.10 rating, 1 goal), and Idan Toklomati Jorno (7.07 rating, 2 goals). Their stats are impressive, but will it be enough to steamroll NYCFC?
We can’t discount prior history in the sport of Kings...er, soccer. When it comes to past matchups, there seems to be an even tug-of-war between these two with their most recent results like a yo-yo - back and forth, back and forth.
Now let’s talk numbers. New York City FC’s regular season record this year is 9-4-7. Dreamy, right? But Charlotte FC isn’t that far behind with 8-2-11. It’s evident that NYCFC holds a bit of an edge here, but someone once said that a player is only as good as their last game, and Charlotte’s recent results could be seen as a mixed bag.
I imagine this game will be more balanced than a tightrope walker on a windy day. But if we’re talking predictions, here it is.
