Philadelphia Phillies by 3As we dig into the matchup between Philadelphia Phillies and Athletics, the first things that pop are the starting pitchers. Let’s not forget about our heavy hitters, Philadelphia Phillies' lineup has players like Edmundo Sosa and Brandon Marsh racking up consistently high batting averages. And let’s not discount Kyle Schwarber’s power with 10 home runs, by far outdoing his season's teammates. The Athletics aren't far behind though, Jacob Wilson and Miguel Andujar maintaining pretty decent batting averages.
However, remembering the previous confrontations between these two teams reveals a mixed bag of results. Looks like the Athletics know how to make a splash in Philadelphia, but the Phillies have also had their share of triumphs.
The regular season records show the Phillies with a distinct edge while the recent games paint a slightly different picture. The Phillies have been on a winning spree, leaving the Rockies in their dust. The Athletics, however, have been wrestling with some serious hiccups, struggling against Los Angeles and barely scraping by against San Francisco.
Now, let's take a brief moment to acknowledge the all too neglected Oakland Coliseum. Not exactly a slugger's paradise, but hey, we all can't be Coors Field.
After all said and done, I'd put my money on the Phillies making a show of it. Given their upper hand in both pitching and batting, and the recent form, the scale is surely tilting in their favor.
